Phase Change Materials (PCMs) are high performance Thermal Interface Materials often used as a alternative to Thermal Grease.
PCMs are provided in sheet form at room temperature and can be die cut to shape. They are applied between heat dissipating electronics and heat sinks. At elevated temperature, the PCM softens and flows to fill the voids and conform to the surfaces. This results in a thin bond line and yields a thermal performance almost as high as Thermal Grease but without the need for liquid dispensing equipment.
Typical applications include cooling CPUs, GPUs, Power Supplies, and IGBTs.
PCMs are available with electrical isolation if the application requires dielectric strength.
